Use this from your AI assistant

This search is an MCP server, so an assistant can query it directly. Connect it once and you can hand over a list of names and ask which of them appear on a federal or state exclusion list, instead of checking them one portal at a time.

No account and no API key. The same endpoint backs the search on this site.

Let your assistant set it up

Open this in whichever assistant you use, or copy it into one we have not listed. It adds the server using whatever method that client needs, then confirms the connection by reading our coverage ledger back to you.

Or copy the setup prompt

For Cursor, VS Code, a terminal agent, or anything else.

Add an MCP server called "harper-oig" at https://oig.tryharper.app/mcp.

It is a public HTTP MCP server (streamable HTTP, no authentication, no API key).
Configure it for whichever client you are running - Claude Code, Claude Desktop,
Codex, Hermes, Cursor, VS Code or ChatGPT - using that client's current method,
then confirm it is connected by calling its list_coverage tool and telling me
how many jurisdictions are covered.

Or configure it yourself

Claude Code

One command in your terminal.

claude mcp add --transport http harper-oig https://oig.tryharper.app/mcp

Codex

Codex reads TOML, so the JSON block below will not work for it.

codex mcp add harper-oig --url https://oig.tryharper.app/mcp

Hermes

Or add a url entry under mcp_servers in ~/.hermes/config.yaml.

hermes mcp add harper-oig --url https://oig.tryharper.app/mcp

Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code

Add to the MCP servers block in your client's config file.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "harper-oig": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://oig.tryharper.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}

ChatGPT, or any client that just wants a URL

Add as a custom connector. No authentication.

https://oig.tryharper.app/mcp

Then try this

Screening a roster is the thing that is tedious by hand and quick here, so start with one.

First prompt

Swap in real names from a vendor roster.

Using the harper-oig tools, check whether any of these people appear on a
federal or state healthcare exclusion list:

- Jane Doe
- John Smith
- Acme Home Health LLC

For each one, tell me the source list and the exclusion date, and flag clearly
that these are potential name matches rather than confirmed identities.

What it can do

search_exclusions
A person or organization by name, optionally narrowed to one state.
check_name_across_jurisdictions
One name against every covered jurisdiction at once, grouped by where it appears.
get_exclusion
One record in full, with its source and current status.
list_coverage
Which jurisdictions are live, which are broken, and which publish nothing at all.

Before you act on a result

Every result is a potential name match, not a confirmed identity: the government files carry no Social Security Numbers, so a matching name cannot establish that it is the same person. Verify against the official source and at exclusions.oig.hhs.gov before doing anything with it. No match is not a clearance either - the coverage ledger says which jurisdictions were actually searched.

Limits

240 requests a minute per IP, on both the API and the MCP endpoint. Every response carries its own X-RateLimit-Remaining, so a client can pace itself without being refused first.

Worth knowing if you connect through ChatGPT or Claude on the web: those call this server from the provider's own infrastructure rather than from your machine, so you share that allowance with everyone else using the same assistant. Running it from a local client instead - Claude Code, Codex, Hermes, Cursor - gives you your own. If you need a guaranteed allowance or a bulk export, email data@tryharper.app.
